Holy Trinity’s Outreach is done by many people working together.
The people on the Social Ministry Committee have been managing many ministries for many years:
There are the teams who shop, cook and deliver dinner for more than 100 People With AIDS on the third Tuesday of each month, Holy Trinity has been doing this since 1988 and is the “linchpin” of Lutheran Church of the Incarnation’s weekly ministry to people with AIDS.
For more than 40 years, Holy Trinity has housed the INTER-FAITH FOOD PANTRY. About 10 families are fed per day through this food pantry. Holy Trinity not only provides the food-space, we provide the heat, light, secretarial time, and volunteer-time in the mornings (as the bags are loaded) and in the afternoons (as the bags are picked up by the hungry). And, of course, members of the congregation regularly bring non-perishable food for the food pantry to distribute.
Volunteers for DINNER’S READY provide meals for families of our own congregation who are facing an emergency, dealing with a death, or have someone in their household who is sick.
The Saturday Sewing Group provides hand-knit or hand-crocheted afghans for children in hospitals and foster care, Little Dresses for Ethiopia, and does many other sewing or knitting projects. We meet once per month to sew or knit together. (See the bulletin for details.)
We sponsor Red Cross Blood Drives in January and June.
Also, we are always doing collections of one kind or another: we collect for the Good Behavior Store at Silver Spring 3 times a year, we collect for Baby Manna and The People’s Emergency Center in Philadelphia. We do Christmas Appeals for Artman Home and Angel Tree (a ministry to prisoners) and Christmas gifts for Silver Springs.
And this doesn’t even begin to list all the outreach projects that our Men’s and Women’s groups are involved in.
Here at Holy Trinity, we don’t just give money (although we do give that) — we are also involved in hands-on outreach ministry. Like Jesus has told us to be (Matthew 25: 31-44).
